I graduated from Phillips University, Oklahoma, in 1967 with a degree in Elementary Education. I taught for Jefferson County Schools from 1967-1969, then taught for the Department of Defense for 6 years. From 1969-1971, I was at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines. I took the opportunity, during that time, to travel extensively throughout the Orient, including flying over and landing in Vietnam, during the height of the war. I didn't realize, at the time, that the man I would one day marry was there fighting in the war.

In 1971, I transferred to Baumholder Army Base in Germany to teach at their American school. I again took advantage of the opportunity to travel, this time all over Europe. During this time, I married an Army Captain. Two years later, our daughter, Christi, was born at the American military hospital in Landstuhl. That's the same hospital that today receives all seriously wounded members of our armed forces from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Upon returning to the States, we settled in Arvada and soon had our second daughter, Missy. I became a stay-at-home mom until the kids went to school, whereupon I became a substitute teacher. Today, I have four grandchildren (three who are triplets) and one on the way. My husband, Bill, and I are now retired and live in the mountains near Conifer. We enjoy spending time with our family and traveling as much as possible.
