Merete returned to Norway, finished her schooling, married and had two daughters. She began as a school teacher and finished as a principal, in the town of Vågå, in the middle of Norway. She directed a choir until recently, when she retired and moved back to her hometown of Kristiansund. Both her girls are married and she has 3 grandchildren; one of her daughters is a school teacher and the other an international lawyer. Contrary to what some believed possible, we have kept close contact over the years - she visited us or we went to her many times; the first time was right after our freshman year of college when she traveled with us all over Europe for 2 months, ending up at her family home for a week of parties in the midnight sun. Most recently she came to Denver at Christmas in 2004. Visiting the US seems to be a family tradition: both her daughters were exchange students. She is very active, skiing, of course, but also hiking and running marathons. Recently she has fallen in love with an old school mate and declared to me that she is "a very happy girl!"
